GOTR 5k Run/Walk Volunteers Needed!

We need many volunteers to help us pull off the Girls on the Run 5k Run/Walk each year. If you would like to help us out, apply to be a 5k Volunteer here. Please note that we have 4 5ks each year--a spring and a fall 5k for Wayne County and a spring and a fall 5k for Stark County, so times listed below will vary.

You can volunteer to help in the following ways:

 

Indoor Volunteers:

Greeters

Welcome participants and direct them to registration area, starting line, health expo, etc.

Number needed: 3 to 6

Approximate time required: 4 to 5 hours


GOTR Sales Booth

Sell GOTR-branded items

Number needed: 2-4

Approximate time requirement: 4 to 5 hours

GOTR Certificate & Medals Coordinators
Check in GOTR participants and give 5k finishers their certificates and medals.

Number needed: 1 or 2 per team

Approximate time required: 2 to 4 hours

Registration Clerks
Assist participants signing up for the 5k

Number needed: 5 to 9

Approximate time required: 4 to 5 hours

Packet Gatherers
Assist registration clerks in handing out t-shirts and goody bags

Number Needed: 8-12

Approximate time required: 3 hours to 5 hours

Food Helpers
Distribute food to participants after the 5k

Number Needed: 6-8

Approximate time required: 3 to 5 hours

Indoor Set-up Helpers
Decorate, sort shirts, set up tables, stuff 5k power packs (aka goodie bags)

Number Needed: 10

Approximate time required: 3 to 5 hours

Indoor Clean-up Helpers
Tear down registration, pack up GOTR Store, clean up as needed

Number Needed: 10

Approximate time required: 1 hour

Outdoor Volunteers

Power Patrol
Register as a 5k participant, cheer on girls, discourage negativity on the course.

Outdoor Set-up Helpers
Put up sponsor banners, team signs, set up course, set up Happy Hair Booth

Number Needed: 10

Approximate time required: 1 to 2 hours

Photographers
Take photos of teams, 5k participants, Health Expo (Must be willing to release all rights to photos and use a GOTR Stark memory card to be turned over at the end of the event.) Photographers will receive online recognition.

Number Needed: 4-6

Approximate time required: 2 to 4 hours

Happy Hair Booth Helpers
Apply Girl Power Stripes (basically 2 stripes of paint under the eyes) and/or colored hairspray to willing participants

Number Needed: 6-10

Approximate time required: 2 to 4 hours

Parking Attendants
Direct participants to designated parking area.

Number Needed: 6

Approximate time required: 2 to 3 hours


Finish Line Attendants
Provide directions to participants at finish line to clear the finish chute and get food and water.

Number Needed: 6-8

Approximate time required: 2 to 3 hours

Road Marshals (spring)/Course Marshals (fall)
Direct runners at intersections/turns on the course

Number Needed: 25 or more (spring) 15 or more (fall)

Approximate time required: 2 to 4 hours

Water Stop Helpers
Hand out water to the participants on course

Number Needed: 10

Approximate time required: 2 hours

Outdoor Clean-up Crew
Clean up track, pack up supplies

Number Needed: 5-10

Approximate time required: 1 hour


Additional Information

There will be a volunteer check-in table on-site. Please check in with one of the volunteer supervisors to receive your assignment and details. Snacks & coffee will be provided for all volunteers as well as a volunteer t-shirt.
